CaSB offers two(2) minor programs:

  1. Mathematical Biology
  2. Systems Biology.

Admission

To enter any of CaSB’s minors, students must:

  • be in good academic standing (2.0 grade-point average or better).
  • have completed Computer Science 31 or Program in Computing 10A with a grade of C or better.

Requests to declare the minor must be sent to CaSB via MyUCLA Forms. Please visit this page on the C&S BIO website to submit your request via MyUCLA Forms.

Pre-Major/Major/Minor Declaration Request Review Windows

Effective Winter 2026 and forward, the C&S BIO Undergraduate Office will have two program declaration windows for students. Program requests will be collected and reviewed twice per quarter, as well as once during the Summer Session. Students must submit their request through MyUCLA Forms. Please find the link to the MyUCLA form here. Program Declaration Request Windows are:

  • Monday, Week One(1) to Friday, Week Three(3) of Fall, Winter, and Spring quarters
  • Monday, Week Eight(8) to Friday, Week Ten(10) of Fall, Winter, and Spring quarters
  • Monday, Week Zero(0) to Friday, Week Two(2) of Summer Session A

Please allow 7-10 business days after each deadline for review. Students who do not submit their request via the MyUCLA form by these deadlines will have to wait for the next review period. Students can begin submitting program declaration requests as early as 2 weeks before each deadline.

Reminders for submitting program declarations:

  • Be mindful of enrollment passes and plan ahead.
  • Be mindful of program declaration requirements. For example, students interested in declaring the COMP BIO major will need to have all pre-major courses passed by the time their program declaration request is reviewed.

Other Important Information

Additional pre-requisite courses may be required to enroll in required minor courses.

At least 20 units applied to a minor program must be unique to the minor (i.e., not double-counting towards any other major or minor program).

Each minor course must be taken for a letter grade (unless a course is only offered Pass/No Pass), and students must earn a C or better in each course. Students must also have an overall grade-point average of 2.0 or better in the minor. Successful completion of the minor is indicated on the transcript and diploma.
