Virtual Drop-In Advising

Day and Time: Mondays, 1:00 PM – 2:30 PM
Comp Bio offers drop-in advising virtually starting SUMMER 2025. Since the summer session has begun, we at the Comp Bio undergraduate office understand that stopping by for in-person advising may not be an option for some students during the summer. To ensure that we can continue to assist as many students as possible, Comp Bio has decided to offer a virtual drop-in window. Virtual drop-ins will replace the in-person drop-in window starting SUMMER 2025 and will continue into the academic year.
The virtual drop-in session will be from 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM every Monday. The Zoom meeting information is sent out every Monday morning before 10:30 AM to confirm that Comp Bio will be conducting virtual drop-ins. If Comp Bio will not be offering virtual drop-ins on a given Monday, then a cancellation announcement will be made instead. Comp Bio will either send students the Zoom invite link OR an announcement cancelling virtual drop-ins via BruinLearn every Monday before 10:30 AM. Since the Comp Bio undergraduate advisor will be managing the waiting room and seeing students, sometimes communication with the waiting room can be difficult. We have automated messages that are sent to the waiting room when 1. a student joins, and 2. when drop-ins are at capacity and seeing the Comp Bio advisor is unlikely. As long as a student joins and fills out the sign-in sheet, which they will receive the link to in the waiting room, before 2:00 PM, a student is likely to be able to see the Comp Bio academic advisor.
Seeing the Comp Bio academic advisor during the virtual drop-in window is not dependent on the time the student joins. Instead, a student must join the waiting room to receive the sign-up sheet. The sign-up sheet determines the order students will meet with the Comp Bio academic advisor.

Tuesday: 9:30 AM – 11:00 AM; 2:00 PM – 3:00 PM (Remote)
Wednesday: 9:30 AM – 11:00 AM (Remote)
Thursday: 9:30 AM – 11:00 AM; 2:00 PM – 3:00 PM (Remote)
Friday: 9:00 AM – 10:30 AM (Remote)
Considerations for Advising Appointments:
If, for any reason, you prefer a phone appointment, please specify “Phone Appt” in the “Description” section when booking a remote appointment.
Appointments are scheduled for 20 minutes, but may last up to 30 minutes.
Please be mindful of other students when booking appointments and, if needed, please cancel or reschedule your appointment at least 2 hours in advance so another student can have your time slot.
Please be on time for appointments. If you are more than 5 minutes late, your appointment will be considered a “No-Show” and you will need to reschedule. If a student misses (or cancels with less than 2 hours’ notice) three or more appointments in a quarter, students will lose access to the online booking system and will have to email the counselor to set up an appointment.
Comp Bio only has one Academic Advisor, so it can be difficult to find an appointment, especially during high-volume times of the quarter. This includes when enrollment opens for a quarter and the weeks leading up to finals. If an urgent appointment is needed, the Comp Bio advisor will NOT make exceptions to book 1:1 advising appointments to meet with students. It is the responsibility of the student to meet with the Comp Bio academic advisor during the virtual drop-in window OR to book a 1:1 appointment with the Comp Bio academic advisor.
Comp Bio Undergrad BRUIN LEARN Page: Effective Winter 2023, this is the primary method of mass communication for the Comp Bio Undergraduate Office. The BRUIN LEARN forums are used to inform current students.
You will receive email alerts when a new message is posted to BRUIN LEARN. If you want to view past announcements, you can log in to the site and view the forum using your UCLA login and password. Note that email notifications will be sent to the email address that you have on file on your student record.
